Former Chinese President Jiang Zemin has died at the age of 96

Former Chinese President Jiang Zemin has died at the age of 96. The Chinese flag was flown at the tunnels in his mourning.
According to foreign media, former President Jiang died of leukemia and organ failure in Shanghai.

He is survived by his wife Wang Yiping and two sons.

Jiang Zemin succeeded Deng Xiaoping as president in 1989 and led China out of global isolation and onto the path of economic modernization.

However, when he retired from the post of President in 2003.
Jiang Zemin came to power after the 1989 Tiananmen Square incident and is considered one of the most important leaders of modern China.

Jiang Zemin oversaw Hong Kong's peaceful transfer of power in 1997 and then played a key role in China's accession to the World Trade Organization in 2001.
