51st Martyrdom Day of Major Shabir Sharif Shaheed who gave his life in defense of the motherland

Major Shabir Sharif Shaheed Nishan Haider was born on April 28, 1943 in Kanjah town of Gujarat district and completed his education from St. Anthony’s School and Government College, Lahore. During the 1965 India-Pakistan war, Major Shabir Sharif attacked the gun positions of the Indian artillery battery while patrolling on the Trotti front and took control of it and made four soldiers prisoners of war, destroyed two guns and captured one. With this success, 10 Infantry Brigade, 6 FF, 13 Lancers and 14 Punjab Regiment got a chance to make significant progress and the Indian soldiers were forced to flee the field after being scared by the trots and jodiyans.
Awarded the Star of Gallantry for this gallantry, he was ordered in December 1971 as Company Commander 6FF to take control of the key Sabona Dam near the Sulaimanki headworks with a company of his men. A team consisting of more than a company of the enemy's Assam Regiment was deployed, which was also supported by a squadron of tanks.
Major Shabbir Sharif remained a cover for the enemy for the next 3 days and nights with systematic effort and high skill. They killed 43 enemy soldiers and destroyed 4 tanks and dealt a blow to the opponent. Major Shabbir Sharif and his colleagues gave stiff resistance to the 2 battalions of the enemy. Major Shabir Sharif’s shirt caught fire due to the grenade thrown by Major Narayan Singh. Then the full burst of the machine gun was emptied on him.
Shabir Sharif foiled many enemy attacks continuously from 4th to 6th December, Major Shabir Sharif suffered a blow to his chest while thwarting the enemy’s air support and tanks attack on 6th December and martyred himself in the path of his homeland. What did In recognition of his bravery and courage, he was awarded Nishan Haider, Pakistan’s highest military award. He has the honor of being the only personality to get Nishan Haider and Stara Jarat. Major Shabir Sharif’s younger brother General Raheel Sharif has served as the Chief of Staff of Pakistan Army. While his close friend, Major Aziz Bhatti, earned the Nishan Hyder by creating an unprecedented story of bravery in the 1965 war.
